Dave Courtney was well known for his friendship with other well known hard men such as the Krays, Roy Shaw, Joey Pyle and Lenny McLean. In his time, Dave claimed he had been shot, stabbed, had his nose bitten off (they sewed it back on) and had to kill to stay alive. Dave Courtney was involved in debt collecting, minding clubs, assault, contraband and murder. He was previously better known as “the yellow pages of the Underworld” and provided the security at the funeral of Ronnie Kray. On 22 October 2023, Courtney was found dead at his home Chestnut Rise, Plumstead, having shot himself. He was 64. Please note the exact design may vary from the example pictured.
Hell to Pay is a 2005 British film by Roberto Gomez Martin, his directorial debut, about a London East End’s gangster life based on the semi-autobiographical story of Dave Courtney, who plays character of Dave Malone in the film.
Dave Malone (Dave Courtney), a British gangster, is set up by his own brother Larry Malone (Billy Murray) to murder a rival crime boss. Dave avoids the scheme and subsequently the murder charge made against him, whilst planning to eliminate the competition and take over the lucrative London crime trade. The oil-on-canvas depicting the crucifixion used in the film was painted by real-life East End gangster Ronnie Kray as it was given to Dave Courtney as a present just before he died in prison.
