The one-armed bandit murder was an infamous criminal case in the north east of England. The case involved the murder of Angus Sibbet in 1967. The following trial resulted in life sentences for Dennis Stafford and Michael Luvaglio. Both men were released on licence 12 years later. The crime allegedly inspired 70s classic gangster film ‘Get Carter’,
Both Dennis Stafford and Michael Luvaglio protested their innocence but bids to challenge the conviction were refused. Luvaglio always said he did not deserve to die as a murderer in the eyes of the law. Sadly he passed away in 2020. He was 83 years old.
